Mainboard Problems Cheltenham
At Cheltenham Computer Repairs, we often come across problems with computer mainboards (motherboards). This can be down to a general chip failure or a power surge from an inefficient power supply (psu).
There are a number of issues to consider when replacing a mainboard and this is often down to whether it's an exact replacement or an upgrade. If it's an exact replacement, you might get away with everything working normally when you boot it up again, but if it's not a direct replacement, you could find that you have to re-install everything from scratch. This could also mean the need to have CDs for installing your version of Windows as the Windows version might be bound to the system you bought and a new motherboard might well be seen as not being part of the licensing agreement for that version of Windows.
If you are happy to re-install everything, then it's important to make sure you have the right board for your needs, so consider the following:
The above concerns are more for those just replacing the motherboard whilst keeping the other components. For those wishing to rebuild with fresh components then they are not so important but still worthy of consideration.
If you are happy to re-install everything, then it's important to make sure you have the right board for your needs, so consider the following:
- Will it fit your present computer case?
- Will your present PSU provide enough power?
- Does it have the correct slots for your graphics card?
- Will it take your current CPU? (ie Intel or AMD)
- Does it take the same RAM as you have now? (ie DDR2 or DDR3)
