Power Supply Issues
300 Watts / Low Specification | 1000 Watts / High Specification |
There are a number of things to consider when repairing your computer. One of the issues we, at Cheltenham Computer Repairs, face is the issue of computer power supply units (PSU) failing or not being efficient enough.
If you buy a pre-built computer, it's likely they added the correct power supply for the PC as it was built. There is little in the way of consideration for how you might update or add to your computer and so if you have a 300 watt PSU and you start adding a pwer hungry graphics card or more hard drives, the chances are your PSU will either stop working or fail to supply the necessary juice to get everything working together. This could lead to further problems down the line such as mainboard issues.
At Cheltenham Computer Repairs, we have a number of PSUs in order to test whether your computer is suffering from power issues.

Replacing a PSU
If you are considering upgrading your PSU, we strongly suggest you choose a power supply that is more than you need just in case you want to add that extra hard drive or new graphics card.
The quieter and more power efficient the PSU, the more expensive they will be and it's possible to pay 200 pounds or more if you go to the extreme ends of computer modifications, but a decent PSU shouldn't cost much over 60 pounds. Having said that though, you can get them for as little as 15 pounds but we don't recommend it.
If you want so advice or to have a specialist computer repair company do it for you at a very reasonable price, then
